GRATITUDE has long been associated with the emotion of ‘HAPPINESS’ - that warm comforting feeling of contentment we all yearn to experience and hold onto in our lives. Having experienced gratitude in what appeared to have been nigh-on impossible situations throughout my life, I knew first-hand the impact that gratitude could have on my mental and physical wellbeing. But what I hadn’t ever comprehended with any level of seriousness, was how GRATEFULNESS could serve as the catalyst for change in my life or anyone’s life if we learn to recognise and to give thanks for even the smallest aspects of our existence.
Cultivating a heart of Gratitude however is never that easy because it not only takes practice, it takes a very intentional level of commitment to practicing every day. And that’s where keeping a journal can help to keep you on track:
Gratitude Journal: setting time aside every day to write down three small things about your day that you are grateful for, reminds us of what is really important in life. Handy tip:
‘Make your journal attractive. Use coloured pens and pictures to make every entry more of an experience than a daily practice’
Practice Mindfulness: taking time out daily to be present in the moment and to be aware of your surroundings. Soaking in the beauty around you and observing the kindness of others creates peace and contentment.
‘Enjoy the little things for one day when you look back, you may realise they were the big things’
Gratitude Meditation: the simple act of reflection on all the people and things you are truly grateful for. When we allow that reflection to take us deeper, even the most difficult of people and seemingly bad situations in our lives give us an opportunity to learn and grow.
